3 Things You Must Do To Step Into Your Purpose

Passion is for you, but purpose is for other people. After hearing this being said, I knew right then and there what I wanted to do. I heard this from a virtual mentor, someone I follow online and who actually don't know that I see them as a mentor. When my "mentor" stated those exact words, a light went off in my head. Something lit up inside me and I knew what I ultimately wanted to do. It's not that I didn't know already what I wanted to do, but after she said those words, I solidified my want to become a coach for purpose-driven multicultural women. I knew that I wanted to give them the additional resources to help them gain balance in their life, increase their productivity, get clearer on who they are and what they had to offer. Since then I've made it my mission to not only help other but highlight other women inspiring and influencing in their own right.

When it comes to stepping into your purpose, it's all about giving yourself permission to do what it is you really want to do.

It's no secret that when we decide to pursue our dreams we doubt ourselves, we fear what we don't know and that causes us to be stuck. It causes us to not pursue our dreams. When we don't know the result, we don't want any part of the process. But that can change. It's a simple change, but it's going to require work from you. To step into your purpose, you must first:

Give Yourself Permission

We hardly ever give ourselves the permission to be/become the person we want to be, to live the life we want to live, to make the impact we want to make. We usually swallow ourselves up in excuses: "I'm tired of my day job", "I don't have all the money I need", "I don't have the time...", "I'm still not sure what it is that I want to do". We make excuses for why we can't do what it is that we want to do, in fact, we stall. We need the confirmation from our significant others, from our family, from our friends, we need someone to say, yes, so we can then make our move. But the reality is even we do get the confirmation, we still may never take action. You are the only person standing in the way of where you are now and where it is you want to be. Only you can give yourself the permission to do what you want to do.

Be Clear on Your Purpose

We are all here to do more than simply exist. It doesn't do any good for you to not use your talents and gifts to inspire others. The more you inspire others the more you will open up a world of not just opportunities, but a world of change, a world of growth, and a life you want. Your purpose serves others and it's knowing how you want to serve others. Only you know what gifts and talents you possess, it's my job to help you bring forth those gifts and talents to serve others. You may like fashion/style, but your purpose isn't to just showcase your closet, it may be to help people learn how to style themselves depending on their body type. ThePhillyBraLady is someone I follow on Instagram. She helps women figure out the appropriate bra size and finding the right bras for your body and personality. She figured out where she was needed and she's been providing solutions ever since. Again, your purpose serves other people, solve a problem, fulfill a need, be of inspiration, be an influence.

Embrace Being Uncomfortable

The unfortunate thing about pursuing your purpose is that it will be uncomfortable. The truth is it can't be any other way. If something was comfortable, it wouldn't challenge you, help you grow, motivate you. Things that are simple to do and easy doesn't help you reach your full potential, it only strokes your interest. Learn to be uncomfortable. Accept discomfort, embrace it because it will make you stronger. The more you embrace your discomfort, the more you get comfortable with it. You might own your own non-profit but aren't good at speaking in public, embrace your discomfort, practice speaking in general, in a camera, to people out in public, the more you embrace your discomfort and challenge it, the more it challenges you and makes you stronger.
