What Is Your Personal Brand & Why It Matters
How you represent yourself is so important to creating the life you want to live. Your personal brand is all about what people associate you with and how you reflect your values and beliefs to the world.
What does that mean?
It means what you share on Facebook actually matters especially if you claim you want to start your own business, get promoted, get a new job, get people to notice you, etc.
Your personal brand tells people who you are and what you're associated with, but really it tells people how to treat you and how to approach you.
I used to think little of my personal brand until I sat in on a presentation in high school. I found out that people actually have jobs that require them to look through your social media accounts, browse your history on the internet and make sure that you are a good fit as an employee for their company. I never knew a job like this existed, but now understanding the role in which social media plays in my everyday life, I now make sure that whatever I post online is appropriate regardless if it has no real correlation to my day job.
But personal branding isn't only what you post online. It's also about how you carry yourself irl (in real life). Whenever you walk out the door, you are telling people verbally & non-verbally, "Hey, this is me. This is who I am and this is how I want you to treat me".
So why does this even matter?
Your personal brand matters for many reasons. One, if you want people to take you serious enough to invest and support you than you need to work on your personal brand. You can't expect people to support your dream of starting a business, if all you do is sleep all day, you never show up when you need to, etc. The same goes for getting a job or promotion or whatever it is that you want to do in your life.
Your personal brand should speak for itself and not you having to speak about who you are all the time.
People should look at you and automatically associate you with being passionate, driven, determined, an achiever, progressive thinker, all things that point you in the direction of moving forward in your life.
As millennial women we live in a world where everything we post online says so much more about us - it's scary how people will assume they know you just by what you post online, the words you use, the images you associate yourself with, but that essentially is branding yourself and it matters so much more now and it all comes down to how you actually want the world to perceive you.
How do you even create your personal brand?
What do you want to stand for? What do you value & believe?
What is most important to you? What is of value to you?
What are you passionate about? What are your interested in?
