How To Put Yourself "Out" There In Your 20s
Putting yourself out there regardless of what age is scary, but being in your 20s happens to be the most scariest time.
First, you're already going through a lot: relationships, friendships, family issues, job hunting, school, and still trying to have a social life. Through all of this, it feels that your life is constantly spinning and it almost feels that people see it happening.
But putting yourself out there in your 20s doesn't have to scary nor hard to do. There are a few things that you need to keep in mind:
Experiment + Do What You Love
First and foremost you shouldn't put yourself out there as something or someone you have no experience in or have no interest doing at all. Doing what you love means doing something you know how to do and do well; something that you can teach other people because you have more than enough knowledge in it. On the other hand, doing what you love means taking the time out to experiment with other interests to figure out what you really like doing best. You might find out that what you previously thought you loved to do isn't what you want to do for a living at all.
When I started my first blog, I thought that natural hair was something that I wanted to talk about and make it a goal to help black women with, but I realized that I wasn't really interested in that topic after a year. I then found myself experimenting with teaching others how to start a blog and make money from it and was close to offering blog coaching services. I even decided to experiment with web design since I customize my blog(s). Eventually, I figured out that I really just want to help other millennial women find their voice and discover what they have to offer to the world.
Being in your 20s makes you feel overwhelmed about the fact that 30 is getting close and you may or may not be in your dream career or doing what you really want to do; but don't feel that way. Understand that you have more than enough time to go after what you really want and create the life you really want to live. However, don't expect to go from Chapter 1 to Chapter 21 in a matter of months or simply go from working a 9-5 to making a living doing what you love. You need to start small and by starting small that means doing the little things that can make the most difference.
If you want to put yourself out there and offer something to the world start by letting people know what you do first. People can't support you or get involved if they don't know what you do. If you want to put yourself out there as a natural hair expert than you should start a blog, write on it daily, attend natural hair events locally and nationally, and connect with other natural hair bloggers/vloggers.
Don't Please Everyone
Remember with putting yourself out there people may or may not gravitate to you, and that's okay. Everyone will not like who you are or even understand what you do, but you're not here to please everyone. Whatever you want people to see you as, you have to know who those specific people are.
